Anise Hyssop ("Licorice Mint")

Agastache foeniculum · smell + visual + hummingbird (double duty)

germinate 18–22 °C, requiredphotoperiod day-neutrallight 200–400 PPFDwater moderate; tolerates dry once establishedaroma estragole (methylchavicol) — the anise type

Double duty: an anise scent for the smell-design track and a hummingbird/bee magnet (and genuinely pretty). Surface-sow (light); a 10–30 day cold-moist stratification lifts germination; up in 1–4 weeks, often blooming the first year.

Scent vocabulary: the licorice is estragole (methylchavicol — the tarragon/aniseed molecule). Five chemotypes exist; ours is the estragole "aniseed" type. If a seedling leans minty instead (menthone / pulegone), that's a chemotype segregant worth noticing — a smell to keep and clone.
